I need to either buy a external hard drive or a brand new computer. Which would be best? I know the external hard drive is cheap and best for now, but will it give me that much memory? I have lots of pictures (1000-2000) and I play the sims 2 a lot! And I download custom content as well. So how much memory and space do you recommend?
just an fyi, memory in computer talk is RAM, not hard drive capacity.
anyway, you can get up to 2TB in an external hard drive. any size you can get for a desktop, you can get the same in an external hard drive. also, if you have a desktop, you might have an extra hard drive slot that will allow you to simply install another one in it.
based on what you use it for, i would say a 500GB would be perfect for you as they are cheap and fit a lot of information. if you want to future proof a bit i would get a 1TB

All you get is space when you get a Hard Drive the RAM gives you more memory, you need no more then 2Gb for XP and 3 for Vista on a 32bit system

Dont think about the external hard disk for know because you should get an internal one first…
External drives are mainly for backup purposes and as u havent mentioned any backup purposes…
and when u r looking for internal drives u have to opt between SATA and IDE…
SATA is faster and easier to install ( has other goodies as well ) …
U should go for something like 120Gb or above if u think u r gonna need more in the future..(as needs are always increasing)….
Well if u need any more information on any type of computer issue or need some more info on this particular topic, U can always feel free to Email me or IM or whatever and i will be Willing to help u…
All the best…………
