I want to buy myself a new digital camera and I have been highly considering this one because many people I know are happy with it. I was just wondering how much memory it came with and if you guys think I should buy a different memory card or not. Thanks!

The A1100 IS comes supplied with a small capacity card of only 128MB…which will only allow you to shoot approx. 39 images in the best quality. Or only 1 minute of video.

So, you really do need to buy another card with more capacity. I recommend either a 2GB SD card or a 4GB SDHC card.
2GB will allow approx. 626 images or up to 16 minutes of video. 4GB will allow double that.

You will want a fairly fast card. For a digital camera, don’t buy a standard slow speed card (Class 2). The A1100 IS features Canon’s latest Digic IV processor and has large 12MP files, including video….so for optimum performance, a fast card is best….you will need a fast Class 4 card (something like the excellent Sandisk Ultra II) or a Class 6 card at the very least.

p.s. make sure you format any brand new card before you use it the first time. The User Guide shows you how…also format it again whenever you need to delete ALL files from the card. Don’t treat you memory card as a permanent storage device, so don’t make a habit of leaving all your files on the card. Transfer them to your computer as often as you can, then delete them from the card by formatting it.

I don’t think cameras come with memory cards any more. You have to buy them yourself. Get at least a megabyte.
