Any help would be greatly appreciated ![]()
Forgot my notes and text at school, and i need these done asap!
1. Describe 3 cellular processes which make use of vesicles.
2. Describe 2 ways in which enzymes are used during DNA replication.
3. Two digestive enzymes produced by 2 different glands act on the same substance. Both enzymes function optimally at pH of 7.1 to 8.4.
a) Describe the similarity of the enzymes structures and explain why this affects their ability to act in the same substance.
b) What would happen to the rate of the reaction above if the pH was changed to 3.0?
4. Describe 2 digestive reactions which occur as a result of pancreatic secretions.
5. Describe the events that lead to inhalation after stimulation by the respiratory system.
I’ve tried looking them up on the computer but havent come up with answers for all of them..
Im NOT looking for some stranger to do my homework for me, these questions are just the ones im most stuck on. I do have answers for them but my answers either seem too short or I’m not 100% sure.
& this is extra work I’m putting in.
1. Endocytosis, exocytosis, and transport.
2. DNA helicase unwinds the strand to be replicated
DNA ligase reattaches the newly copied strands
3. b) The reaction would be slowed or non-existent because extreme pH denatures enzymes.
Hope this helps
Sorry this is a little long but I have no one to share this with as we have kept this a secret form those around us. My husband is infertile. We both had testing done and found I was fine. So we chose to do IVF and I got SO sick from meds… bad hyper-stimulation making too many eggs, 30 eggs! His sperm was such poor quality that only 3 eggs became embryos. I got preg but he has Damaged DNA that causes miscarriage… that we didn’t know until later unfortunately. So, after the early miscarriage we did IVF again, same outcome of 30 eggs but got 4 embryos. Every month I’d do all the drugs to transfer one and get pregnant and then miscarry. At the end of all this the Dr informed us that my hubby’s sperm has damaged DNA having high miscarriage risk. By now I was having permanent hot flashes from monthly medications building up in my blood from cycle to cycle. We’d done IVF shots for months and I could feel my entire body shift gears from being healthy to feeling kind of "off". I had regular menses and ovulation but… the hormone shots made my cervical mucus less fertile and the Dr brushed it off. The meds began to make my uterine lining thin and the Dr brushed that off as ‘comes with the territory’. I had constant night sweats and the Dr said "Not fun but that doesn’t effect your chances of getting pregnant". Each miscarriage was early but we’d jump into another try for pregnancy as soon as I recovered… they said my hubby’s count would only get worse and we didn’t have time to wait. We were both 28 and 4 years later… we gave up and chose to do donor sperm. I was still feelng ’sick’ but the Dr assured me it was no factor to getting pregnant. Our first IUI with donor sperm we were pregnant. But, at 4 months I was diagnosed with placenta abruption and the blood pooling in my uterus broke the baby’s water and he had to be delivered too early to survive. The Dr said his placenta was not attached right and bled due to left-over hormones from medications prior that effected how his placenta grew. We were so hurt, mad, no words to describe how it feels when we don’t have the medical knowledge to know this risk until it happened. 3 months later the Dr said I was fully recovered from labor and delivery. We tried again and again with donor sperm and IUI and with each try the meds made my lining too thin, my cervical mucus that was normal before was off and the Dr excused it as a meds side effect. He times the inseminations to his schedule and not my body but says I have to do the meds for extra eggs because frozen donor sperm is lower count and chances are slim doing natural cycles. I’m so confused and now it’s been 7 months of trying and every time there was some issue of the donor sperm count being too low, meds making my lining too thin. I’m 32 now and when I questioned the Dr as to why I wasn’t pregnant he said… well, maybe you have older less fertile issues now too. But Dr’s have re-tested everything and all says fertile. And I obviously get pregnant easy even with poor quality sperm. But I know KNOW this all has made my body not well. If I wait and take a break, I’m 33 and time is not on my side. We always wanted to adopt but most people don’t know that if you are pregnant, the government will not allow placement until the children are one year apart and if you are trying to become pregnant then the government foster adopt program holds your application until you are not trying to have a biological. I know private adoptions are different but they are also about $30K and after all this we don’t have the funds and would’t qualify for aid. It’s this feeling of being between a rock and hard place. We will do a fos adopt and take a needy child as soon as they will let us and hide the fact that we are trying for our own. They said if the child is already placed then it’s not an issue so we’ll have to not get pregnant during the foster faze and only during the adopt faze. Anyhow, has anyone done the meds and cycle and had no infertility issues but began to have them after treatments? Please no rude comments that do not pertain to your experience. Thanks!
I am so sorry to hear of your loss and your struggles.
My husband and I struggled to conceive – our diagnosis was unexplained infertility. My cycle was clockwork – 31 days, always ovulated around CD 16. My husband’s sperm count fluctuated between normal and only very slightly low. We did all the tests – ultrasound, bloodwork, HSG, semen analysis etc . . . and they just could not figure out why a year and a half had gone by but we did not conceive. We tried Clomid, 3 rounds with IUI and HCG trigger, we then tried injectibles with IUI.
We had 3 unsuccessful IUI cycles with injectibles, we decided to take a break before moving onto IVF. I needed counseling and joined a women’s group struggling with infertilty. During what was supposed to be my clock work 31 days . . . we had a 56 day cycle without ovulation. Our RE said that sometimes happens, the meds were controlling everything and now that you are not on them . . . it takes a bit of time for your body to get back to normal – but I would think months not years as you are experiencing.
I find it concerning that you suffered OHSS multiple times – have you been with the same doctor the whole time? I would strongly suggest a second opinion from a different RE. There are better doctors out there – ours encouraged us to get second opinions and did not use meds to force my body to be on his cycle . . . we actually had our egg retrieval for IVF on Christmas Day 2007 – they were open to meet the needs of their patient every day of the year.
Feel free to contact me through my profile if you would like to talk . . . I could recommend some great people if you are in the Boston area.
Good luck and baby dust to you!
Choose an issue of importance to you—the issue could be personal, school related, local, political, or international in scope—and write an essay in which you explain the significance of that issue to yourself, your family, your community, or your generation.
Maria Mitchell stated that “we have a hunger of the mind which asks for knowledge of all around us, and the more we gain, the more is our desire; the more we see, the more we are capable of seeing.” These words of wisdom elucidate how I have lived my life and how I continue to live it; from the moment I was born to the instant my breath gets taken away. Knowledge, intelligence, creativity and imagination are all essential components to our lives, especially to me and my family mainly because our minds have a miraculous yet unknown potential that a lot of us take for granted. The intriguing minds that we are all armed with enable us to do an inestimable amount of things in life.
Personally, I have always seemed to value the knowledge and creativity that has endlessly emerged from others and stretched from person to person, almost like a virus replicating its DNA. Ever since I was a freshman in high school, I always aspired of becoming a cardiothoracic surgeon primarily due to the medical field constantly being inundated with more and more updates and unyielding outbreaks in research. With such a career in a knowledge-filled field, I will be able to augment upon my knowledge and creativity and utilize it towards the research of many incurable diseases and conditions such as cancer and Alzheimer’s. Furthermore, the challenging nature of a surgeon will help motivate me to study persistently and encourage me to read and stay up-to-date with the medical field. Despite the fact that I want to become a surgeon, knowledge and imagination are so prevailing in everyday life that they can assist in the development of many helpful inventions to mankind. Although it can be used in unethical means, we can apply it in such a manner that it will only be beneficial to life and our surroundings. From my perspective, I view knowledge, intelligence, creativity and imagination as the four advantageous pillars of life, the only entities that will last forever in a sense that somehow and someway any human being on this planet can impact their surroundings for the generations to come. If you think about it, what else in this life will last forever? After we die? The answer is something we leave behind in the form of knowledge or imagination through something we created with that imagination and/or knowledge. As a result, I’ve been encouraging myself to read whatever interests me and write whatever comes to mind and share it with my family, which brings me to my influential nature. Just as soon as I started reading about dementia, I always feared that someone in my family might get it. So to stop the worrying, I developed a daily mental stimulation activity that incorporated either math or science related games or activities in order to stimulate our minds and constantly keep it active to prevent my family from getting dementia. Although my family does love to read and write almost every day of their lives, I always share what I read in my pathology or anatomy and physiology textbook with my family so that we can learn something new every day and utilize it some way as they do the same. Along with these fundamental activities, I am also trying to incorporate a family “game night” that is comprised of playing Sudoku or some other mentally stimulating game in addition to exercising different portions of the brain. Additionally, whenever my mind is not in use or is just relaxing, I dictate random facts to myself and memorize the squares of several numbers and recalling the digits of pi. I also like to share my knowledge and imagination with others through tutoring or just randomly giving out random facts and frequently enjoy going on Wikipedia almost every day and read something and add on to it and later share the article with my family.
Evidently, through my writing you can see how much I value the knowledge, intelligence, creativity and imagination we all have, particularly my family and I. My family’s minds are always ambitious to gain more knowledge and intelligence and eager to improve and utilize our creativity and imagination to see what is outside the box.
Thank you for your time! I truly appreciate every second! =)
I loved the essay BUT NEVER EVER EVER ADDRESS THE READER!!!!!!! Take the you out of there but the questions are ok. A bit of run-ons especially towards the end. I do think you might need to watch your word limit since these essays usually have them. The conclusion of your statement really speaks to your personality and you do a good at exposing yourself to the reader. A person who takes action and isn’t inactive when new information comes across you. You project a good image and should be able to get in. I think the first sentences should be cut down a bit and refocused on yourself. Other than that I enjoyed the essay and think you are a gifted writer. The first sentence of the last paragraph : "Evidently, through my writing you can see how much I value the knowledge, intelligence, creativity and imagination we all have, particularly my family and I". This sentence makes you sound arrogant, rephrase it.
i sent a post last night about this also, but was hoping for more answers, so thought i would try again.
im only asking because i have been DNA tested against my ex’s baby and the results are due, but im not able to sleep or anything thinking about this..
ill quickly just tell you the basics
1. we slept together around the time she conceived (my ex)
2. the dates have a 2 week each way ‘possibility’ (as with any pregnancy)
3. she was sleeping with other people
4. i didnt reach full orgasm (at all)
now the info im posting below is from a .gov site, and i wondered if anyone knows if its been ammended or anything, i know there are alot of opinions about this but like i said im not sleeping thinking about this,
im trying to establish if there is chance it could be my baby, as i am really not ready for this kind of shock, it may seem selfish, but i believe a child should have both a mother and father around it everyday,
so the research : – (and i mention again, from a .gov site)
Below are 3 research studies Where scientists prove there is no sperm in pre-ejaculate fluid- (Once again this does not mean that you 100% can’t get pregnant).
Study 1
PIP: A study in Boston, Massachusetts, and another study in New York City examined samples of pre ejaculate fluid from HIV seropositive and HIV seronegative men to determine whether HIV was or was not present in pre ejaculate fluid. The researchers found macrophages and CD4 lymphocytes in most samples, indicating that HIV was present. The more significant finding, however, was that most pre ejaculate samples did not contain any sperm and those that did had only small clumps of a very small amount of sperm which seemed to be immobile. A larger study is needed to verify these results. If these results are confirmed, they may dispel the myth that pre ejaculate fluid contains sperm. An ongoing WHO/USAID study shows that the pregnancy rate caused by men with 3 million sperm/ml/ejaculation is very low; fertility clinics consider men with a sperm count of no more than 5 million/ml to be infertile, particularly if is there is low motility. The average ejaculation has about 100 million sperm/ml, but about 10 million sperm pass through the cervical mucus, about 1 million make it to the top of the uterine tract, and just about 100,000 sperm reach the fallopian tubes. Thus, only a couple of sperm, assuming motility, would reach the fallopian tubes in the case of the pre ejaculate samples with some sperm, which tended to be immobile (sperm levels only in the 1000s). Thus, the probability of pregnancy is very love if pre-ejaculate fluid enters the vagina. Pre-ejaculate fluid of 6 of the 9 HIV seropositive donors in Boston and 6 of the 14 HIV seropositive donors in New York contained HIV, regardless of symptom status or antiretroviral therapy status. Thus, the risk of HIV transmission may be higher than unplanned pregnancy, so people should use condoms before the penis enters the vagina, mouth, or anus. -PMID: 12286905 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE] .
Study 2
Journal of Assisted Reproduction Genetics, 2003 Apr;20(4):157-9. Zukerman asked "Does preejaculatory penile secretion originating from Cowper’s gland contain sperm?" – conclusion: "Preejaculatory fluid secreted at the tip of the urethra from Cowper’s gland during sexual stimulation did not contain sperm and therefore cannot be responsible for pregnancies during coitus interruptus."
Studies 3 and 4
Here’s another two studies that were studying the HIV viral load in pre-ejaculate and incidentally showed that there isn’t sperm:
Ilaria G, Jacobs JL, Polsky B, Koll B, Baron P, MacLow C, Armstrong D, Schlegel PN. Detection of HIV-1 DNA sequences in pre-ejaculatory fluid. Lancet 1992;340:1469.
Pudney J, Oneta M, Mayer K, Seage G, Anderson D. Pre-ejaculatory fluid as potential vector for sexual transmission of HIV-1. Lancet 1992;340:1470.
What these scientific findings suggest is that precum either does NOT contain sperm AT ALL, or that there is so little that the chances of pregnancy are very VERY low. The chances are not eliminated but they are so low that becoming pregnant from pre-*** easily becomes urban myth.
thankyou for any information you may have, its greatly appreciated
It’s possible, but not likely.
Pre-cum or pre-ejaculatory fluid is released when a guy gets an erection. It cleans out the inside of the urethra, which is the tube that carries semen and urine out of the penis.
The fluid makes the urethra less acidic and gives the sperm a better shot at surviving the trip from the guy’s testicles to the girl’s fallopian tubes. There’s usually NO sperm in pre-cum fluid.
But, if there are live sperm inside a guy’s urethra (because he has ejaculated recently), the pre-cum can "pick up" the leftover sperm on its way through the urethra and out of the penis. If a guy pees after he ejaculates, that would kill leftover sperm.
So, say a guy has sex and cums at 9 p.m. He doesn’t go to the bathroom after he has sex. At 10 p.m., he gets another erection and pre-cum fluid is released. That can have live sperm in it. Is it enough sperm to get a girl pregnant? Possible, but not probable.
But pre-cum can carry sexually transmitted diseases, so a guy should put on a condom as soon as he gets an erection.
hope that helps and think carefully about who you sleep with because id hate to have a mother who has no prorogative my little girl is 3 im only 18 and i know i can safely say who her father is and that i will set a good influence for heer when shes older
find the right girl and good luck

if you were inside her with out any contraception then i would say there is every possibility you are the babys father , and how ever much u feel u are not ready for a child there is this baby here now. and i agree that no matter if you are together with the babys mother or not u owe it to this child to be there for him /her . if you believe that you should be there for this child every day then be there for the child every day . good luck
If our main purpose on earth is to spread our DNA and engineer offsprings, where does the line between pyschological behavior and primal instincts cross? Sexuality is entirely biological, with almost every known animal species exhibiting some form of heterosexual and homosexual attraction, but how did the human genitalia evolved from the primates? Why did this occur and how is that our brains can be excited by hormonal stimulation?
The human male genatalia is larger than any primate whereas the female hips have evolved into a wider arrangement.
Uh.
I can’t give answers to your entire question. In fact, I’m not sure I even understand it.
For one thing, men do *not* have larger genitalia than any other primate. You are thinking only of the penis. The length may be due to sperm competition. Men have moderately sized testicles compared to other apes.
You can answer your questions by going to college and majoring in biology or biological (physical) anthropology. Then you can go to graduate school. Then you can be a post-doc.
But you can start off by reading the links below.
ARIES
With your short attention span, Aries, your choice of Moose Tracks ice cream more often than not makes a statement. As you’re still a kid at heart, an old-fashioned sugar cone with one scoop of chocolate chip ice cream can whirl you back to Mom and childhood at a dizzying speed.
TAURUS
Taurus loves decadence, and chocolate ice cream topped with raspberries and amaretto is almost like being in love for you. Another touch of decadence comes when you indulge in Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream. Lately, though, you may be leaning more toward nonfat, no-cholesterol, no-lactose raspberry or blueberry sorbet.
GEMINI
Always on your way to or from somewhere, there’s no time to slowly enjoy a delectable treat of your favorite creamy butter pecan ice cream with a buddy. You will more than likely grab a green-tea-with-raspberries frozen yogurt or a waffle cone with your flavor of choice; you know how you like two of everything.
CANCER
Cancer water babies like their ice cream rich and gooey and especially love vanilla; it probably reminds you of the big glasses of milk that mom poured for you. A Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Blizzard from Dairy Queen will not only satisfy but also feed those childhood memories. With more than one planet in Cancer in your chart, there is probably a frozen yogurt, sorbet, and ice cream maker in the kitchen cabinet.
LEO
If you are wooing a Leo, presentation is everything. Lions like everything to be larger than life, so serve mounds of vanilla almond ice cream with swirls of caramel on crystal or carnival glass ice cream plates, and you’ll have your big cat purring. A classic Dove bar, vanilla ice cream wrapped in dark chocolate, is another way to the heart of a Leo.
VIRGO
Fitness is your thing, Virgo, and you’ll normally go for the nonfat strawberry frozen yogurt or something healthy-sounding, such as green tea soy cream. This year, with Saturn in your sign pressing you to challenge yourself more and more, you could give into the pressure and indulge in Ben & Jerry’s Crème Brulee ice cream as a way of nurturing your overworked soul.
LIBRA
Always mindful of appearances, Libra, not only are you watching calories, but you are conscious about how your choice looks to others. You’ll more than likely order a small dish of nonfat vanilla frozen yogurt, but back home alone in front of the TV, you pull out the Ben & Jerry’s New York Super Fudge Chunk ice cream. It’s probably in the freezer now, safely tucked behind the pint container of lemon sorbet.
SCORPIO
You, Scorpio, are always on the run and over-committed, and for that reason, you love your coffee- or mocha-flavored ice creams. Try Cold Stone Creamery’s For Coffee Lovers Only treat for added stimulation. Whether you know it or not, caffeine is wired into your DNA. For a fast jumpstart, a scoop of vanilla ice cream in a steaming hot cup of coffee will do the trick.
SAGITTARIUS
A taste for the exotic in ice cream is your choice, just as the exotic in life is high on your priority list. Haagen-Dazs’ Baileys Irish Cream and Crème Brulee ice creams could be just what satisfy your sweet tooth. When there’s a long night ahead, you might fortify yourself with Ben and Jerry’s Coffee Coffee ice cream.
CAPRICORN
Capricorn won’t overindulge, and a small dish of butter pecan or chocolate ice cream is one of your favorite stand-bys, but sometimes even a stubborn Cap needs to bust out of their routine! To indulge your desire for a grandiose lifestyle, try Haagen-Dazs’ Almond Hazelnut Swirl, and you’ll probably add real whipped cream.
AQUARIUS
When you aren’t inventing your own ice cream concoctions – and you have had your share of doing that – you’ll still want something offbeat, such as Ben & Jerry’s Imagine Whirled Piece or a Strawberry Bananadanna Sundae. We could also find you indulging in a big helping of fried ice cream after a tamale salad.
PISCES
Pisces can never make a definite choice; just the roster of flavors available can induce confusion. One of your definite favorites is Baskin-Robbins’ Pralines and Cream. Another of your sure things is an extra-large portion of whipped cream on vanilla ice cream with almost any topping, from strawberries to thick fudge. For late-night indulging, Kahlua espresso ice cream pie fits the bill. Could life get any better?
Bunkity Bunk Bunk Bunk.
this paragraph is a part of Ron Regean speech about stem ceels and i need to summarazie it but im stuck. Would you give me some help to summarize it please? Thanks all
"Now, imagine going to a doctor who, instead of prescribing drugs, takes a few skin cells from your arm. The nucleus of one of your cells is placed into a donor egg whose own nucleus has been removed. A bit of chemical or electrical stimulation will encourage your cell’s nucleus to begin dividing, creating new cells which will then be placed into a tissue culture. Those cells will generate embryonic stem cells containing only your DNA, thereby eliminating the risk of tissue rejection. These stem cells are then driven to become the very neural cells that are defective in Parkinson’s patients. And finally, those cells–with your DNA–are injected into your brain where they will replace the faulty cells whose failure to produce adequate dopamine led to the Parkinson’s disease in the first place."
Basically what it is speaking about is the alternative to medicine. This is speaking about how a doctor might eject a few skin cells from your arm. The doctor or scientist will then place the nucleus (center) of one of the cells from your arm, and place it in a donor egg whose own nucleus has been removed. There will be a chemical which will then force the cells to begin dividing and creating new cells. Those cells will create embryonic stem cells with your DNA. These new cells can then be injected where needed to help serious health issues.
That is basically a short synopsis on this excerpt from the speech.
